Elaith Malaguld

Elaith's parents were Raen refugees that were taken in by the Malaguld tribe after the two had fled Doma at the start of the occupation. Despite being outsiders, the two were treated as if they were steppe born Malaguld their entire lives. It was in this relative safety, the Raen refugees brought two lives into the world: Lia and Elaith.Elaith is the younger and smaller twin, and though their births were mere minutes apart, Lia constantly reminds him of it. Born without any hearing at all, Elaith learned sign language from a Moks within their tribe to give him a way to communicate. He received his first pair of hearing aids at four and learned to speak, and despite the best efforts of those around him, his stutter stuck around. With his new hearing aids he learned just how much of a target he and Lia became for his tribesmates. He was constantly in trouble with the elders for fighting other kids for teasing him and Lia, especially Lia, and over time developed a talent for spinning believable lies to get the bullies in trouble. His reputation meant he had few friends, but aside from that, his childhood was normal as any other Steppe child's was.Elaith demonstrated a talent for combat skills from very early in his life, and thus was picked to train more intensively to become a warrior like his mother. Even though he never hit a growth spurt or became stockier like the other boys, he picked up skills very quickly and became one of the top students in his class.Problems arose when Elaith was due to move to a full warrior. Not because he's a Raen, but because he's deaf. The Elders, who make the final decision of when an apprentice undertakes Bardam's Mettle and become a warrior, believed that Elaith was a liability on the battlefield and wouldn't be able to complete the trials due to his use of hearing aids, so kept him as an apprentice. This was repeatedly told to him and proved to him through trying to coddle him despite clear evidence this was not true and that he'd adapted ways to get around this in the event his hearing failed. But still the elders were constantly punishing him for sneaking onto the battlefield with the warriors anyways, since the Elders refused to give him permission to. He didn't care, however, and kept doing this and receiving the punishments.Just as Elaith started making friends, the occupation ended. Faced with the choice of staying with the tribe or returning to Doma to run their old teahouse they'd left behind, their parents elected to do neither, instead opening up a teahouse in Kugane. The twins' father was an astounding chef and their mother an astute businesswoman, and with the two of them in charge, the business flourished and they settled in well. Elaith had always enjoyed learning the tribal dance styles with the women in the tribe, and started doing that for the teahouse. He got scouted by a prestigious dance company in Kugane, training intensively there for several years, where he learned to entertain. He practiced his skills on Hingan merchants, using his charisma to entertain and provide them company. He quickly became sought after by wealthier and wealthier patrons for both his company and to entertain, and developed the style to match. When Lia moved to Eorzea however, not only did he miss his twin, he got bored with the East as a whole and its lack of connection to the rest of Etheirys as a whole. So he moved, saying his goodbyes to his parents and promising to visit often. He settled in Ishgard, a city filled with high-borns and those who seek their influence alike. Will he find the glamour and influence he desires?
